UUMKL former Director, Mohd Yusof appointed KUIN Rector
ALOR SETAR: Universiti Utara Malaysia Kuala Lumpur (UUMKL) former Director, Prof Datuk Mohd Yusof Kasim was appointed Insaniah University College (KUIN) Rector effective Monday.
Kedah Menteri Besar, Datuk Mukhriz Tun Dr Mahathir said the appointment of Mohd Yusof, who was previously Asia-Pacific University College of Technology and Innovation Vice-Chancellor, was made after a painstaking process to avoid any harm to stakeholders.
Asserting that Mohd Yusof’s credentials to lead KUIN cannot be disputed, Mukhriz said the new Rector had been enlightened on KUIN’s quagmire.
“With his vast experience, I’m sure the new rector will propose and implement various approaches and solutions to solve KUIN’s crisis as well as set out good governance,” he told reporters after meeting Kedah’s educators here yesterday.
He said the KUIN Rector was selected by a special committee comprising professors from institutions of higher learning nationwide, Education Ministry representatives, State Executive Councillors and a representative from the Menteri Besar Office.
Meanwhile, Mohd Yusof, who is also an economic professor and a visiting professor at Hebei Normal University, China, told reporters that he had started discussions with KUIN’s deans and staff in an effort to review KUIN’s direction.
“We have to improve KUIN’s quality of education and ranking. Hopefully, we might be able to gain a full university status in two years’ time.
“Actually, there is no issue with KUIN’s reputation even at the international level in terms of student intake and quality. It means that KUIN is already a well-established private university.
“KUIN is among private universities with a high percentage of lecturers with PhDs as well as associate professors and professors,” he said.
Apart from raising quality of education, he said KUIN needed to improve its financial position by ensuring viability of its businesses.
Hailing from Negeri Sembilan, Mohd Yusof, 59, had served as Higher Education Department Deputy Director-General, Sabah Economic Action Council member and Sabah Institute of Development Studies board member as well as assisted in Universiti Malaysia Sabah’s development. – Bernama
