Sarawak unveil new players

KUCHING: The Football Association of Sarawak (FAS) has officially unveiled their nine new imports with the addition of a striker Milorad Janjus of Serbia as their latest new lineup in a press conference held at the State Stadium yesterday.

FAS president Datu Sudarsono Osman who made the announcement said, Milorad - a striker who played in the Vietnam League for SHB Da Nang FC - was highly recomended, together with Iranian 

striker Alireza Abbasfard and Hungarian defender Gabor Gyepes, as Sarawak were confident of making their presence felt in the Super League season which will be kicked off on Jan 18.

“Sarawak, who have retained their last season’s striker Muamar Salibasic of Bosnia, had also added six new local imports for the new season. We will set a target but that will only be decided when Sarawak team play their pre-season matches in a tour of Malang in Indonesia,” said Sudarsono.

“We are confident of doing well next season as we are emboldened by the qualities of our new players particularly the foreign imports as well as the local imports too.

“The players which we saw after the three months break are full of fire and enthusiasim.

“This has made us more optimistic as the new players have good qualities. 

“Our latest acquisition of the Serbian striker Milorad Janjus have given us more options as he had done well during his playing career for the Vietnamese club in the AFC championships.

“Iranian striker Alireza which we signed recently is also another top striker.

“We will set a target but will only decide later after the friendlies,” said Sudarsono who later welcomed the new players after their workout at the State Stadium.

Meanwhile, Sudarsono also announced that they have appointed a new coach in Sabahan Johnny Donimicus to guide their Presidents Cup and Sukma squad.

He said Dominicus has come with a good credentials as he was the coach for the Presidents Cup champion as well as the Sabah team who were champion in the last Sukma in Pahang in 2012 which showed the State’s seriouness in their commitment to success.
