KUCHING: Traditional rivals Persipon and SEG FC will once again face off at Jubilee Ground, here, in the title decider match of the Soccer Enthuasiast Group (SEG) Cup Football Invitation 2013 tournament at 3.30pm today.
Persipon, the champions from Kota Pontianak, Kalimantan Barat, Indonesia are favourites to win the title based on the results of the round robin matches yesterday.
Persipon assistant coach, Syahril Mium said his players are prepared to play their best against SEG once again and win the title.
“We expect the team spirit to prevail among the players who will perform their individual roles to their level best,” he said.
“Undoubtedly, it will not be an easy task as SEG will use a different approach to play in the final this afternoon,” added Syahril who reminded his side to be cautious in their attacks.
Persipon, dubbed the Equatorial Eagles qualified for the final with nine points after beating SEG 2-0 at Field D Petra Jaya on Friday then crushed Samarahan Under 19 4-0 at Jubilee Ground, Jalan Padungan yesterday morning before they finished off Yayasan Sarawak also by 4-0 at Field D Petra Jaya yesterday afternoon.
Syahril noted that his first eleven did not reveal any weaknesses in their games and would like this factor to give them the edge over SEG this afternoon.
Meanwhile, SEG FC chief coach Burhaniza Abu Bakar said the final will be a repeat match but with a different perception.
“This time we are not playing for the points and throughout the coming 90 minutes, it will be a different ball game altogether,” he said, adding that they are planning to spring a surprise on their visitors from the neighbouring country.
SEG enterd the final with six point after losing to Persipon 2-0 but came back to beat Yayasan Sarawak 2-1 at Field D, Petra Jaya early yesterday before defeating Samarahan Under 19 yesterday at Jubilee Ground, Jalan Padungan.
